Short Mat bowls is an indoor variation of the sport of lawn bowls. The object is to gain as many points, or shots, as possible by getting your bowls nearer to the jack than your opponents’ and outscoring them over a previously agreed number of ends. As Short Mat is played indoors and isn’t affected by weather conditions, it can be an all-year-round game.
The rink mat is 40-45ft long and 6ft wide. A wooden block is placed in the centre of the mat and players have to bowl around it to reach the jack, which sits near the end of the mat.
Come and play Short Mat Bowls at Richmond Park Bowls Club every Monday and Thursday from 2 - 4pm.
No previous experience is required. Sets of bowls can be borrowed from the club. Short Mat bowls is open to non-members - just come along on the day.
You'll find a warm welcome.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are always available.
